the morbid curious
journal of ghosts, murder & the macabre
The Morbid Curious is the journal from American Hauntings Ink that is published twice each year — Samhain and Walpurgisnacht Editions. It’s designed to delve into the darker side of American history by revealing true tales of ghosts, hauntings, true crime, the unexplained, and all the things that go bump in the night.
We publish non-fiction accounts and articles only. If you’d like to submit, see the following guidelines and keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter accounts for announcements and submission times.

journal submission guidelines
Please submit unpublished tales of ghosts, true crime, and the unexplained (no longer than 10,000 words and 1,000-word minimum) as a WORD Document with your NAME and the TITLE OF THE ARTICLE at the top to our editors at: ghosts@americanhauntings.net
Photos and illustrations should be inserted in the text where you’d like them to be placed in the publication. Please also include a short bio to go along with your article. Writers may submit one article during each submission window.
response to submissions
Our editors work alone in the late night hours in a tiny room at the American Hauntings Ink offices and are given very limited time and resources. Unless they are interested in publishing your work, you may not always receive a response to your submission. Don’t be disheartened, though, you are always welcome to try again! Successful applicants will be notified when a submission will be included in an upcoming issue!
What we’re looking for…
The Morbid Curious magazine is an offshoot of the type of books that we publish — haunted history, historical true crime, the supernatural, the occult, and the macabre. We are not interested in any sort of fiction, but would consider biographical pieces on historic ghost story writers. In other words, we are interested in a wide range of the strange, the unusual, and the bizarre from American history. If you think you have something we might be looking for, send it along and we’ll look it over!
payment
At this time, The Morbid Curious is unable to pay for articles. That may change in the future (we are just starting out) but all published writers will receive 3 free copies of their issue, as well as a 50% discount for as many copies of their issue as they want to be so that they can offer them for resale on their own.
